What is Budo?

True Budo is the way to learn the laws of nature that are deeply related to all aspects of human culture, i.e. religion, language, arts and politics. It is too big and profound to be labelled.

Training of breathing

"Budo is the training of breathing (Iki, here written with the kanji for Water and Fire). That creates a great power that rises up inside of you."

I understood that the Keiko (practice) of Budo is divine service. Budo is an ancient way that can be traced back to the history of the creation of the universe. At the same time, it is a mysterious know-how that can be applied in any epoch. I would say that Budo was born to pass down to posterity 'the truth of Kototama' in a concrete manner. Kototama is an ancient theory of the energy that gives birth to and nurses all things in the universe. And among all things the most wonderful piece of art that Kototama has created is mankind.

Sensei

It is written in the Old Testament: "Man is created in the image of God". The Creator used the power of Kototama to create the universe. Then he condensed the universe into an existence called 'man'. Man is the universe condensed, and the universe is an expansion of man. Kototama is what moves and nurtures all.

The study of Budo is the study of Kototama. Budo that is based on a reasoned philosophy and on a way of using the body void of any inefficient movements, produces a manner, a way of speech and a way of thinking, that successfully formalizes all behaviour. Therefore, Budo has had a profound influence on Sado (the tea ceremony), Noh theatre, and other traditional Japanese arts. In this way, Budo is the oldest culture in Japan. However, it has a sad history, as the truth about Budo has been hidden and erased. Waraku was born to bring this hidden history into the open.
